Writing a story that is completely, in every detail, from top to bottom, a lie. And, furthermore, a lie which was able to be debunked with a simple phone call. Of course, they could have verified and then spiked the story themselves with a simple phone call, but that would have required actual journalism.
And not only publishing a fantasy, but then illustrating the story with a photo of people (“gunshot victims”?) standing in line in Oklahoma, in summer, wearing overcoats and other winter gear. And calling a drug that won the 2015 Nobel Prize for Medicine “horse dewormer”. And then, publishing a correction, but not retracting the story after the hospital in question refuted every detail of the story by putting a notice on the hospital’s web page. (Of course, Rolling Stone has published bogus stories before this, and even had to pay significantly after doing so, but they apparently are unable to learn from experience.)
But that’s not all: several more of the usual suspects chimed in to demonstrate their own stupidity by reposting the story and gloat over the stupidity of people who would take “horse dewormer” to combat COVID:
